Today, images are scanned to create high resolution digital files which are then worked on with advanced image editing software such as Photoshop. Basic steps involve adjusting contrast, correcting color casts, boosting saturation, straightening and cropping. Advanced photo repair and restoration fills in dust spots, corrects for tears and surface damage, and selectively colors stains and areas of severe degradation.
