The Story of Helena Photography
It would not be a stretch to say that Helena Photography is a local portrait studio staple. Helena Photography has been helping Helena and the community record family memories since the early 1980’s. With that much history behind it, Helena Photography proudly boasts that it is Helena’s oldest, continuously operating, full time portrait studio. And the future looks bright.
The current owner of Helena Photography, Kevin Hudson, has owned and operated Helena Photography for close to 20 years.
Seeing the change in the photography industry, with the introduction and mass production of digital cameras and photo editing, Helena Photography adapted.
In an era of fly by night, pop up “professional” photographers, Helena Photography understands the value of true professional photography and works to educate the community of the difference between them and Helena Photography. Because of that, in a jungle of competition, Helena Photography continues to thrive.
Each year Helena Photography photographs between 7-10 thousand of Helena’s young athletes as they participate in any one or more of Helena’s multiple sports leagues. This, in turn results in photographing hundreds of families, weddings, graduations and business portraits.
In recent years, Helena Photography has added more fun to the business model by introducing a Photo Booth Rental service.
About the Owner/Photographer
Kevin Hudson has been a photographer for more than 40 years. He purchased his first camera at age 11, fell in love with the art of photography and cul-tivated his passion into a life’s ambition to become a professional photographer.
Throughout high school and college, Kevin both taught and studied photography. Graduating from college with degree that encompassed journalism, photography and public relations, Kevin joined the Army and traveled the world as a photojournalist. Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm were the capstones of his photojournalism career. After returning from the Gulf War, Kevin hung up his boots, but not his camera. After leaving the military, he became a small business owner and professional portrait photographer, purchasing an existing photography studio in Colorado Springs, CO. Given the opportunity, he sold his studio and relocated with his wife and son to Helena. Within months, he purchased Helena Photography and the rest is history.
Named Helena’s Best Photographer year after year Kevin’s work has been published in many newspapers, magazines, billboards and has also adorned the covers and jackets of a number of books.
